Measles activity continues to increase in Pennsylvania. Margiotti & Kroll Pediatrics is closely monitoring guidance from state and local health officials.
At this time, Bucks, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, are not designated as areas with sustained community transmission. Most children in our practice should continue following the routine MMR vaccination schedule.
An early MMR vaccine may be recommended for:
· Infants 6–11 months who live in or will visit an area with ongoing measles transmission
· Infants 6–11 months traveling internationally
· Children 12 months and older who may qualify for an early second dose because of travel or increased exposure risk
· Children identified by public health officials following a known exposure
An MMR vaccine given before 12 months of age is considered a “zero dose” and does not replace the two routine MMR doses given after the first birthday.
If you are unsure whether your child is up to date or have upcoming travel plans, please contact our office so we can review your child’s vaccination record.
If your child has fever and a rash, has been exposed to measles, or may have visited an identified exposure location, please call us before coming to the office. This allows our staff to safely arrange the appropriate evaluation.
We will continue monitoring the situation and update our recommendations if local guidance changes.
